On Raglan Road

On Raglan Road on an autumn day I met her first and knew
That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue;
I saw the danger, yet I walked along the enchanted way,

Help With This Talk Please...

OK. This week is Acts. Saul has just met the risen Jesus. He's now in Jerusalem preaching up a storm.

Read the passage and comment, what are your questions, thoughts etc.

Me, Barnabus jumps out. What a man of faith!

Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem     Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21All those who heard him were astonished and asked, "Isn't he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn't he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?" 22Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Christ.[a]  23After many days had gone by, the Jews conspired to kill him, 24but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.

Mirror In February

Remember English class? Remember exams being two years away? Remember poems written by 'middle aged' men bemoaning their lack of youth? Remember thinking, I don't get that, I wonder if I ever will?

Getting it is such sweet sorrow.

Thanks Thomas

Help Me With My Talk Please!

Just got in from a really useful session with someone on this week's passage.

It's Mark 2:13-22. Jesus calls Levi (Matthew). Matthew trows a party. The Pharisees get all het up (typical) and Jesus tells them that he's not come for righteous but for sinners. Then it gets noticed that Jesus' disciples do not fast. Why not? Well because with Jesus there is is one big party so why fast? Jesus is bringing in something so new and radical it cannot in anyway be compatible with the old ways.

I'd love your help on this one.... So please read on.

Deep Philosophical Question

Jonathan paused tonight at tea. He stopped stuffing his face with potato and leant over and asked me a deep philosophical question. To which I have no answer.

'Daddy?'

'Yes'

'Why is Scotland?'

Sound of Silence or Empty Space

I'm aware that I have not blogged for a few weeks now. Sometimes it  bothers me. Why? I mean (no offence to anyone reading this) but it's not as if millions hang on my every word!

Perhaps it's I fear being seen to be silent.

Back from Paternity Leave - Sadly!!

Two weeks ago today, it was the start of the tour (le tour) and we were three, Wayne, Wendy and Jonathan.

Two weeks on and I am about to put my face around the door of church 'in anger' (as they say!) after a wonderful two weeks getting to know Charlotte.

So what have we learned...?
