Don't you just hate those 'body-language-analysts' who take every little gesture you make and translate it into some epic that reveals your inner soul? You instantly find yourself uncrossing your arms, legs and every other crossed part of your body, and screaming 'I'm NOT being defensive!!!'.

A friend of mine recently shared how God had literally performed a miracle in her workplace. She works for an agency providing Care Centres. One of these was due for closure for various reasons, causing huge distress all round. After loads of prayers, and just before the crisis meeting, God turned up!

It's a human problem. The problem of wanting the output of a situation and forgetting that the output comes from the inputs. We crave and desire the outputs of fame, glory, affirmation, wealth, faith even - but these things are not bestowed (well often not), but come through having focussed on the inputs.
When life is not working out how we want, when we sense we're not getting what we truly desire, its good to think about what we are inputting.

2. To signal the end of a conversation, clamp your hands over your ears

What is lasting in life is not lasting with the Lord. In the Kingdom of Christ money, possessions and currency have no value. Have you ever thought of that? The paper, plastic, and coinage that we tote around are worthless in the eyes of God. This is not to say we are not blessed with provisions for our family and comfortable jobs…but that currency, in the end, is worth as much as the dirt we drive on.

Legend has it that when the victorious Roman generals returned from their campaigns of war and covered themselves with glory in grand parades on the streets of Rome, they would be followed by a small voice warning them of the fickleness of fame and fortune.

I’m totally mesmerised by the meltdown in financial markets. I know that the banks employ a lot of good people, a lot of smart people. I know that the banks are a great place to work for a few years - you can learn a lot and you get well paid for it. But I want to say something about the kill or be killed culture that prevailed in these places. It wasn’t that long ago when investment banks were recruiting the best graduates with promises of big pay cheques and massive bonuses. Banks attracted people motivated by money. To get a job in an investment bank was an easy road to riches, to have their names on your resume was a passport to success.

I've been a bit of a slacker on the blog front. There is a lot I want to say, particularly about the meltdown in the financial markets. A friend of mine who works for one of the affected banks sent me this note:

"It's been very interesting, but a lot of people hurting: having to move out of their homes, upsticks with children and leave the country (sponsored visas), lose their lifetimes worth of company stock that was going to be their retirement etc. ....."
