A blog about favour
A blog about the nicks of life
A blog overdue
This is not an anti-ikea post (red cabnet in background is ikea) . . . . . .
This coffee table came with scratches, a large cut, painted blotches and water dammage. . . . . . . But it had great legs!!!!!
And so the reason i like it more than any other item i have paid for in the house. And these are the thoughts i've gathered from restoring it.
Everything seems like a good idea at the start!
Everthing seems like a bad idea after you've started.
There are two options, really early on. . .
a) Go the whole hogg and do the job properly
b) Do very well but dont stress about the parts
no one will see
Picking option (a) will again seem stupid and you may think yourself crazy after starting
Picking option (b) will inveitably mean starting again at a later stage, there is normally a small degree of smuggness when option (a) users think of all the option (b) users doing the job for the second time!
Mostly this is the option (a) users need to feel less crazy for sanding the parts no one will see..... but YOU will know it hasnt been sanded!!!!!
Then there is the half way point, the point where you wonder if it will all work out ...... or has it all been a waste of time!
Next is the point where you realise it might just be woth it.
By now your arms hurt, the house is very very very dusty, and you begin to realise that for the price of the restoration diy materials you might actually have been able to buy a coffee table off the shelf. ........ Er um.
But wait the final coat goes on and behold!!!!!!!
It's beautiful, the scratches part of the story but only to those who know where to look!
the cut _ resurence that that part of the table top will definatly never give in before the rest, it is now stronger!
The paint gone never to be imagined again! forgotten.
The price paid was high, my time in working hours amounts to the latest coffe table from an expensive designer.
The energy after already long days un-retrievable, spent forever. it took effort patience and vision of the end goal.
I would not swop it for anything.
I've pulled it out of the skip and cleaned it up, i know it personally every little deatil, mark, scratch and gap.
I love my coffee table, the hours cost and effort poured into it somehow are a reflective of something else.
Ps random blog i know but i'm rusty cuase it's been a while! :)
