Hakani

This video contains images of children being buried alive, carried out by indigenous tribes who believe it is necessary in order to rid their community of evil spirits.

The ritual killing of helpless children is currently allowed by the Brazilian government out of concern for the traditional customs of the tribes. However, a dedicated community of survivors and activists in Brazil and around the world are committed to changing the law and stopping the senseless killing.

Play it again, Sam

The music from Casablanca is playing out from a female pianist, as the commuters dart around her, waving at family members, reserving seats, grabbing takeaway foods.  Laptops line the benches as geeks like me sit and upload their lives onto the Internet, whilst slurping on a Sam Adams before catching a plane home.  Already my bodyclock is disengaging from this timezone and onto the next.  My laptop tells me it's 4.30, but it should read about 10.30pm, 'cos that's where I'm headed.

Sexism in the 21st Century

In the same week that Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi upset a lot of Italian feminists by saying that the "left have no taste when it comes to women", only months after having to make a public apology to his wife for flirting with another woman during a speech, the open male affinity with the female form seems to be openly celebrated in other parts of the western world.

Snuggly music

I like music which is snuggly.  This particular kind is Norwegian.  I like Norway.  I've never been there, but everything it seems to have done looks cool.  I'm planning a trip across country to catch my own food and build my own shelters for four days, and am planning some survival training so I don't die in the process - hopefully good motivation...  I might do it in Norway.

Ane is touring at the moment and will be in Holland in a couple of weeks and visiting London mid-May.

Ramblings

I never know what to write about these days.  In a way, there's a lot of personal things I'd like to write, but don't think it's appropriate to share.  There's a lot of factual stuff I'd like to write, but think it's too dry.  There's a lot of faith stuff I'd like to write, but don't think it's really relevant.

I've not really had much time to write anymore poetry.

I've also noticed that when I get busy and stressed, I tend to run out of creativity and the ability to initiate things, and develop escape mechanisms of online poker.  I've interestingly realised I can win money at poker.  I don't think I'm going to go pro though.  I only play with fake money.  Playing for keeps might be different.  But it's nice to know that the option is there, should things get tight.

Escalating Poetry

Give a man a free evening in a hotel, a journal and experiences of riding the Japanese commuter network and this is what you get...

Escalating PoetryThere's a monster in this escalator,
It lives behind a metal wall.

Travel writer

I've been in Japan this week, attending a conference and meeting lots of potential partners and customers.  It's always quite a stressful time, because you work long hours, talk the same story over and over again, think a lot and have conversations with your colleagues about what we're meant to be doing.

Like with any new technology it seems, you have the people who've got direction, the people who were told to come to the meeting but really think the whole thing's a joke, the disillusioned engineers who have wasted many late nights on getting the early prototypes to work, the revolutionist free thinkers who always see blue skies, the kids who like to get together and geek out, the marketing schmoozers, and the bag fillers (people who just like to collect leaflets but never look at them ever again)

Valentines Day Mathematics

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/ magazine/7238637.stm

With Valentine's Day around the corner, don't trust your instincts when it comes to selecting a mate. Human decision making is seriously flawed - but it can be fixed with a few simple sums.

Be warned: this article deals primarily with shark attacks, the lottery, beer, and how to get a date using mathematics. Is it a good decision to keep reading? Unfortunately, the answer is "you need to keep reading to find out."

More religious freedom disappearing

Brussels warns on anti-gay discrimination
Monday 04 February 2008

The European Commission has criticised the Netherlands for allowing churches, schools and other organisations too much room to refuse employment to homosexuals on religious grounds, reports Monday's Volkskrant.

If the rules are not changed, the EC will take the Dutch government to the Court of Justice, the paper reports.

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

Matthew 18:21 - 35
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"

Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
