I visited my 22nd country – Sweden - just over a week ago and managed to spend a couple of nights in jail, jumped into a freezing river and stood on a beach while it was snowing (completing number 27 on my list of 30 Things to Do Before 30) - overall a successful few days!

It was such a fitting end to the careers of Warne, McGrath and Langer (and may have been for Martyn too – if he’d stayed around ;)

I would just like to take this opportunity to celebrate the fact that Australia are once again in possession of the smallest, major sporting trophy in the world – the Ashes.

Although I’m not a major Shane Warne fan, I have to admit the guy is talented – and to win back the Ashes bowling out Monty Panesar – and gaining his 699th Test wicket in the process – well that’s just kind of cool.

It's been over a month and a half since I last blogged. During this time I have been putting both my social life and my work above my blog - and have both neglected my own blog and that of my friends. Even as I confess now I know that my behaviour will not change. After a brief reprieve tonight - I'm going to go straight back to working like a maniac and spending any of my precious spare time with my friends rather than at a computer. However there is light at the end of the tunnel - there will come a day - the 24th of November to be precise - when my conference will be over and I will regain control of my life. At this time I will once again join the world of the living - and be able to add sarcastic and completely useless comments to the blogs of those near and dear to me. Until this time I will live in the shame of my actions. For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.

Well I’m back from holidays – and while I should be feeling rested and relaxed – I feel like I haven’t stopped for the past 3 weeks….but in a good way. So just to fill you in...

Lovely night - ran into so many people I know, ate loads of free Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream then danced it all off.

Death of a Legend

My brother and his mates came in to tell me the really sad news yesterday morning, that Steve Irwin - The Crocodile Hunter - died at the age of 44 in a freak accident.

My brother is due to get married on Saturday, and although we had heaps of running around to do - all of us just felt sad all day. The guy at the Car Rental place in Selma, Alabama passed on his condolescences (I think we're the only Australians he's ever met). CNN and the Animal Planet ran tributes all day, which we somberly watched. And even now I just can't shake this really sad feeling.

Stuff You Terrorists!

This morning a friend in my office reported that amongst their other many and varied targets, terrorists have been planning to bomb United Airlines flights between New York and London on 11 September, as it’s the fifth anniversary of the Trade Centre attacks. Now I’m due to catch a United Airlines flight from New York to London on that date. I’m also due to leave Heathrow in 2 weeks time bound for New York and then Alabama, and while I normally love flying I have to admit yesterday’s news has affected me.
