suggest a song - please!

My sister gets married in 3 weeks time. We're looking for 1 or 2 worship songs to sing. The difficulty is that more than 50% of the congregation are not christians and therefore we need 'first night of alpha' sort of songs. That is, non threatening, easy to sing and learn, about God rather than to God.

What would you suggest?
Good songs for this kind of thing are:

  • Forever (Give Thanks to The Lord) - Chris Tomlin
  • Open The Eyes of My Heart Lord - Sonic Flood
  • Let Everything That Has Breath - Matt Redman
  • Blessed Be Your Name
  • Lord Let Your Glory Fall

There just a few easy songs that have catchy chours' people could sing to easily.
R. Williams' 'Angels'.

That Archbishop has a mean pair of lungs on him.
They should just pick their favourites :o)

And consider what instruments will be used. A lot of modern worship songs probably wouldn't sound the same on an organ, for example.

We had, among others, Hark the Herald, but that's probably only appropriate for a Christmas wedding :o)
for my sister's wedding we ended up choosing amazing grace and dear lord and father of mankind, plus another i wouldn't recommend (but was chosen by family member...!).. amazing grace combines the everyone knows it with the rousing worship song plus very meaningful... it is 'to' God, but definitely non-threatening and well-known... have a great day, and as a previous blogger suggested, definitely choose at least one favourite that is unknown to 50% of guests and make sure remaining 50% sing their guts out to make up the difference... even though people will know amazing grace (or whatever familiar one you choose), as the first night of alpha shows, usually the problem comes from less from people not knowing the songs and more from people not being comfortable singing... so the bulk of the noise will come from the christians anyway... i was once at a wedding when it was me and the priest singing, no-one else had been in a church for years!  i still worshipped though, and it was still a great day... x
Thanks guys!

My sister would quite like to have either 'amazing grace' or psalm 23 - but the vicar put them off by saying that they are the most common songs at funerals these days...

roooooooooooooooof?  How goes it?
Kami!  Nice to see your voice :-)

It goes well at present, if a little bit fraught. Wedding jitters (not mine, I hasten to add!). How're you doin?
For the sake of completion - in the end we chose 'Amazing Love', sung by my brother-in-law.
