Just forked out a few bucks on iTunes to satisfy a weird thing that was happening today.
I found myself humming "That Aint Bad" by RatCat, circa 1990. The thing is, the tune was in my head out of the ether, as they had about 3 months of solid radio time at the time of release, and haven't had a single minute since.
As such I was inspired to drop a few of their tunes onto the trusty iPod, as I can't find the old CD I bought from the Sydney University Union market, in late 1993.
RatCat had a brief but bright moment in mainstream life (at least in Australia), with a couple of charting songs after a solid few years support in the inner city underground scene. I have long maintained that if Tingles and the follow up albums had hit the shelves in the last few years, they would have had a much bigger following.
What does have a big following, myself included, is the not-so-legal practice of downloading bit torrents of music. Out of principle I generally only download songs that I have already paid for in the past, but can't find the CD anymore, or am to lazy to dig out. At least thats my rationalisation, your honor.
As such, I tried to do that today. Once again I was disappointed to find internet thieves have no decent taste in music. A free RatCat was not to be found in any of the dark corners of the internet. Plenty of 50 Cent and Destiny's Child, however.
So, iTunes it was. I guess I like RatCat enough to pay them twice in sixteen years.
