Nikon vs Canon in digital SLR cameras?

HELP!
I've been thinking about getting a digital SLR for a while ... but in a month I'm going to Africa and doing a safari, so I'm determined to get a decent camera before I leave.

I had my heart set on a Nikon D70s, but since have heard some suggest the Canon to be better. They cost about the same, and as I'm starting from scratch I don't have experience or equipment from either brand.

RATCAT and the sorry state of illegal downloads

Just forked out a few bucks on iTunes to satisfy a weird thing that was happening today.

I found myself humming "That Aint Bad" by RatCat, circa 1990. The thing is, the tune was in my head out of the ether, as they had about 3 months of solid radio time at the time of release, and haven't had a single minute since.

As such I was inspired to drop a few of their tunes onto the trusty iPod, as I can't find the old CD I bought from the Sydney University Union market, in late 1993.

Know some interesting trivia?

Tonight I started the first week of Trivia at a new venue, The Break Pizza & Bar, Terrigal.

It was a great night, but I fear that I'm running out of good trivia questions. Maybe you can help - if you have an interesting bit of trivia post it here and it'll make its way into next week's game. I promise to credit you if your trivia question makes it in!

Does God do politics?

Have been wondering lately whether or not there is a position on the political spectrum that is more "Christian" than another.

Paris Hilton - Music Genius

Just noticed on iTunes today that Paris has her first single out. Can imagine this will fly off the shelves.

Tripping the Geographic Fandango

Just found this old pic of Geographer Ian and myself. Can't remember where it was from. Mergs?

Is that Kelly-Anne Reid behind us?

The Nutbush Claims Another Victim

Last night, I joined my wife at a function for her work. It was basically a mid-year celebration, held at Luna Park and included free booze and a DJ, so it was bound to be funny to watch.

For me, this reached a comedic peak when the DJ faded out from Come On Eileen and started to crank up Nutbush City Limits. Within moments of Tina beginning to screech from the giant speakers, the floor was packed with people kneeing and kicking into the air in almost-unison.

The Retrosexual

After reading Merg's (Geographer) article about Rurosexuals, I'd like to point out another phenomena of interest:

Retrosexuals.

Point in case, Donovan Frankenreiter. He rides an old-school single fin board and dresses like he's just stepped out of Young Labour, circa the Dismissal.

The Guilt Is Killing Me

I've never been a good thief. I tried to steal Pacman money from the till of my parents' cafe in the 80's, only to 'fess up before even making out the door.

In keeping with my policy of confessing at the first sign of pressure, on behalf of all Australia, I'd like to acknowledge that many of our "celebrities" are actually not ours at all.

This latest pang of guilt emerged when I learnt that our Nicole was set to marry country music star Kieth Urban. Like all good Aussie musicians, he was born in New Zealand.

Just to clarify, God also likes Surry Hills

One Surry Hills-ite emailed me to check the context that I used in yesterday's post about Jesus living in Newcastle.

I should clarify something for the Surry Hills people. Living in Surry Hills means it is entirely natural if you act Surry Hills-ish. Living like a Novocastrian there would be just as contrived as the opposite way around.
