about.. life?August 19, 2006 - 7:33pm | email this page
Just been away on a two day jaunt on the south downs. Had a couple of days off so took the landy and went camping. For what was supposed to be rain, it was remarkably sunny. The thing I love about eagles (oh there's loads of 'm on the south coast), is that they don’t panic. They seem to know stillness. They trust in their form and currents of wind to hold them way up. And they have good vision so from up there they can see what ever might come their way. Eagles aren’t magpies. They don’t flap around within easy reach of the ground or scavenge about between the fences, picking at this and that. They know what it is to wait and then swoop down on a particular given target. If one would try to stay within easy reach of the ground it would make poor work of flying. And you won’t see an eagle fall from the sky for not flapping. I’d like not to flap. I came into this world a shell of a man, a boy flapping about scavenging for snippets of what I thought was freedom. For me it used to be drugs, chasing girls etc but I guess it could be shopping or holding up the hope of intimacy with someone (other than God) or whatever. I’d rummage between cocaine, encounters with girls, skunk buckets, clubbing and what people thought about my over expressive wanna-be wildman persona. How fake. A glimpse of authenticity was a very refreshing alternative, so I started to hang out loads with my sister who seemed truly free. She told me about the Alpha course and I went on one. Inwardly I became convinced about the possibility of a swap of my world of falsehood, for Freedom without end. And what it cost, I learned, reassured me that it wasn’t just a nice gesture, the only one who could pay up did it because He wants us to really LIVE and be a blessing (?!? Figure that one out!). I’ve many times since come to realise an opportunity to throw off a false layer or two. We’re made to worship right? And if its not God then its something. I’ve been struggling against pursuing girls (believe it or not). But again by his grace I felt He might be saying to me "just look over their heads" and low and behold… Freedom again. I want to really Pursue him. You know that expression ‘audience of one’. Na, He doesn’t want to be in audience of our lives, I think He wants to get stuck in, live in us and express himself through us. (P.s. so if you wonder why I'm looking blankly over your head..!)
