One year on...

Today, Thursday August 7, marks one whole year since we packed up and moved to LA. I can't quite believe a whole year has passed. But it's been an interesting one.
 
We love living here. We love the weather, the beaches, our friends, our church, I love my job and Jonathan has just started his. We've also just moved into a new apartment, which we love. 

But it's been a challenge too. Jonathan had to finish law school, study for, take and pass the bar exam, and find work, and in the meantime we had to survive on just my salary. With hindsight, all of those things actually went pretty smoothly, and God took good care of us, but at the time they felt like dark places of fear and doubt and struggle.

So I thought this was a good day to re-do one of those "tagging" questionnaires that were going around some time ago. I first filled it out shortly before our wedding in December 06, and a lovely friend, having read my answers, commented on what I would be able to put as my answers one year on. Well it's more like a year and a half now, but here goes.

20 years ago I… was 6 years old. I don't remember much about being 6.

10 years ago I… was dating my first serious boyfriend. He was not very nice, and those were not happy days. But I also had a group of lovely girlfriends who remain friends to this day.

5 years ago I… was 21. That was the year I did Alpha and life changed quickly and dramatically. Yay.

3 years ago I … was paired up with a gorgeous American man to lead an Alpha group (along with the very lovely Miss Land) who asked me to marry him about 7 months later :o)

1 year ago I… had packed up all my worldly goods (well, all that could fit into three suitcases anwyay) and moved from London to LA clutching an x-ray and a lot of paperwork.

So far this year I… have celebrated (read: slept late and lounged around on) my first Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day and Independence Day. Yay! But I have also missed several friends' weddings. Boo. 

Last week I…packed a lot of boxes, moved from downtown Long Beach to Belmont Shore and unpacked a lot of boxes.

Yesterday I… made an awesome beef stir fry.

Today I…. have two fun meetings followed by several tedious tasks.

Tomorrow I… am getting paid (yay!) and meeting our church group after work for Shakespeare in the park.

Next week … I have bills to pay and another friends wedding to miss. *sigh*

In the next year I… will hopefully make it back to London for another one of those weddings - I can't miss them all!
