Air Borne

Letting you into a little secret...

When I feel a bit too much like I have two feet firmly planted on the earth and God is way way way up there, I have a way to make myself feel that little bit closer.

I get out my kite and I go off somewhere...well, windy. And then I get out a chunky marker pen and write whatever on it. A prayer maybe, a verse that's important to me right then, a truth, a hope, a dream. And then I fly it up so God can read it!

Flying a kite's so relaxing (providing it's not one of those annoying days where you get it 20ft up only for it to nosedive into someone's romantic picnic/football pitch/pond).

It's the closest thing I get to flying myself, if I lie on the ground and watch my kite riding the thermals. It takes me out of myself. And that's pretty much when my prayers make the most sense and it stops being me me me me and starts being God God God.

Maybe Mary Poppins was onto something with that 'let's go fly a kite' malarkey!

Aww!
That is such a cool idea, thanks Hanski

I once felt God was teaching me that the church needs to be like a kite - both anchored to something secure but needing the wind of the spirit blowing through it to make it fly.

Sitting out on my porch in South Carolina watching an amazing thunderstorm as I'm writing this and thinking this is definitely NOT the time to fly a kite!!
I'm going to make sure you go power kite-ing at Focus. Remind me.
nice. me-likes this. yes. humhumhumdididumdidilyhum
Andyp - if you fly your kite in a thunderstorm and get zapped you might start a rumour that you'd been raptured, leaving the rest of us behind! Scandal! :-)
My first thought when I saw this title in the "fresh posts" list was, "Somebody has something to say on the herbal medicine that gives your immune system a boost?" Weird.

I like that it was about flying kites. I came home today and two brand new kites were laying on the couch in our living room.
That is the coolest thing i've ever heard of, a prayer kite!
You'll defo have to join us at focus, tecky should have his surfing kite by then , it's a really big kite, imagine if we wrote on it as a church?
