On Sunday I ran the Reading Half Marathon. Well I say ran, but there were loads of people runnning ahead of me...
Anyway we started outside the town and ran into town before running back out to the start. The crowds were amazing, people came out to cheer us on, especially the finish with about 3,000 people in the football stadium urging us over the line.
In the middle of town came Friar Street, it seemed, to me, that the crowd was two/three people deep. It was great to be cheered along at that stage as we reached half way.
It was as I left Friar Street that I noticed the large church and an idea came to me...
Where were all the Christians? Perhaps they were all out there, it which case great, but perhaps they were all in church in which case here is the idea.
You have nearly 10,000 people running past your building so why not...
Get a massive sign made up, urging on the runners and asking us to think about the real race...?
Get your musicians out to play us past them. Runners love the ooomph that a band gives as they struggle past.
Have a coffee and cakes type stall for all the crowd. Engage with them, tell them about Jesus.
Instead of meeting in the building, meet outside.
Maybe you were doing things, in which case I'm sorry but maybe you were in your building, in which case, next year, try outdoors.
This idea cost me, I spent the next mile thinking about it so much so that my I slowed down and that mile took me about one minute longer than it should of!
