... and the winner is... Google!

Riding off the back of much recent publicity, Google is now the
preferred company to work for in the US. Last year's winner, Genentech slips down to #2. So what is it people are looking for in these companies?
Google emphasises a whole lifestyle, unbeatable perks when you work for them: having fun, free meals (good, varied 3 meals a day!!!), swimming, spa, free doctors onsite, family time. This is not your average 8-6 job, then clear off home. They put real emphasis on 'looking after' their employees and a stimulating environment.
Genetech on the other hand equally values its employees, but more through the value of their work (cancer-fighting), paid sabbaticals, and, like John Lewis, participation in the company: 95% of workers are shareholders.
All that sounds great - I'm sure there's a lot we can learn from that in the UK! (Any business owners/CEOS/managers out there want to comment?). I just personally know that working for Andover Baptist Church, I don't get many free meals (a couple a year, which is great!), or a swimming pool, but I know that right now, there is nowhere else I'd rather be working - great team, great potential, fascinating variety in my work, and of course, working for the best Boss there is!!!
