Jonah Werner and Young Life

I had the opportunity to take 700 teenagers to the mountains this past weekend…I am still recovering!  Anyway, our Young Life club went to the mountains here in Colorado just for a weekend to kick back, get no sleep, jump in the snow, sing, and connect with God.  Probably about half of these kids have not accepted Christ, which had me pretty excited.  Some of my guys in my club came to Jesus Christ in such an authentic way that left me in awe of how the Lord can change anyone!

We had an amazing speaker who presented the Gospel to these kids that held their attention...which is a miracle in itself.  We also had some great worship from a friend named Jonah Werner.

I think it’s amazing to see someone actively living out the purpose that God gave them like Jonah is.  He has such a gift when it comes to connecting with kids and showing them, through songs, just how the Lord sees them.  I have never seen a more talented guitarist than Jonah, but it’s not his musical skills that captivate an audience; it’s the lyrics that the Lord has given him.  I know this is a plug for him, but if you haven’t heard his music, I suggest you check him out on itunes…I know you’ll be blessed just like the 700 kids were this weekend.

From “Derail” by Jonah Werner:

"…when I hold you last Friday like a picker playin’ slow
spin summer into nothing and turning copper into gold
and like a thief you stole my whisper,
and your beauty stopped my tongue
and what i want i have forgotten
and sudden lit the fires of love
and you derail my heart
and you derail my soul
and you derail me whole
i got this place i get away
and you derail my heart
you derail my soul
you derail me whole
and you save myself from me
you derail my heart
you derail my soul
you derail me whole
and you save myself from me

and you derail my heart
you derail my soul
you derail me whole
and you save myself from me
you derail my heart
you derail my soul
you derail me whole
and you save myself from me along the way"
Andrew,

That's great to got to see Jonah Werner perform. I will second that plug for him. I became a big fan of his after I saw him perform in Louiseville. I bought some of his cds and listen to them a lot. I particularly like the song...I think it's called "Ghost" but it has a poem in the midst of it...really impactful. He is unbelievably talented and so funny; I like the stories he tells during the songs.

Hey Andrew, having been on myspace once to listen to Amyjay's band, I need a little more help to find Jonah's site - have you got a link you could put up?

Great news about your gang - sounds like it was an awesome time in the mountains!
Kat,  Thanks for the write.  Yeah, his myspace link is here I believe!  Have a great day.
wow - great sound!  i'll have to keep an eye out for his albums when i'm somewhere they might be found!
haha, yeah, they might be hard to find except here in the states or on itunes.  There are also some other great Christian musicians that are friends on his site too.
