a question

Ok folks here is an important question;

Which is better, getting a 2:1 from Hull University or a 3rd from Oxford University?

your help is required...
Well a 2:1 from Hull will get you onto a graduate scheme where as a 3rd from Oxford will get you onto Countdown. It depends what you want out of life ;o)
Depends how posh you are
living in peckham, not that posh.
Definatley the 2:1 - so many graduate schemes ask for a 2:1. That said, once your CV has got you to an interview, qualification doesn't matter. And after the first job employers rarely look at the degree.
great question.

I had a place at Cambridge, but ended up going to Birmingham. I learned so much more than my academic stuff - how to be independant, what my alcohol limit was, how (not) to budget blah blah.

I also started running events while there and now do it full time.

My answer, I guess, would be that ultimately it doesn't matter what qualification you got. It's more important that you are well-rounded. I hardly know anyone who's job is the same as their degree - mine certainly isn't.
Why is it so important?
no comment :p
I work in the same job as my degree (civil engineering) but I wouldn't have got a look in in the firm that I work for with a 3rd. Depending on the subject, it is getting harder and harder to differentiate between unis.
in terms of getting a job definitely the 2:1 but in terms of intellect probably the oxford 3rd. although a 3rd really is quite poor, lol, that person probably did no work for 3 years but was clever enough to get in.
the only reason a 3rd from cambridge would be any good is the name attached to the degree.

if this is important to you, and you indentify yourself in this way, you'd be in danger of living a fairly shallow life, as this attitude will most likely transfer into the jobs you take, the friends you make, and the 'things' you surround yourself with.

your priorties in life say a lot about your character. a more sincere and genuine character is not only more attractive to people (and future employers), but is also much better for your personal happiness in the long run.
