Faithful at WORK

Hello everyone,
I thank John for enlightening us on what must be done to change our work ethos. I think it takes a lot of guts and determination, plus prayer to be able to gather a few like-minded Christians to pray together and support each other at the workplace. I do envy John!
The culture of individualism in the UK sometimes makes talking about Religion and prayer so weird, that only God's grace can open the way. All of us got to pray and be  courageous to press on. Hey, I
have always been weird since I came to know Jesus, so I guess another "indictment" cannot harm me too much! ;-)
How can we change the workplace if we just want to merge and be part of the gang? TO BE IN THE WORLD BUT NOT OF THE WORLD. How I struggle to make that true in my life!

Thank God its Friday! (oops old habits die hard)

The work/ministry/life balance is always something I struggled with.

I remember in my first role setting up a prayer meeting in an industry that was strongly unionised, and ensuring that the management/worker relationship didn't affect our prayers. We did however pray that wage negotiations would go smoothly.

In my last role I spoke quite freely about attending the Alpha Holy Spirit weekend (thought I'd take the bold approach for a change) as a result people showed interest in attending the course & we were able to talk (amongst the banter) of the role of faith in my life.

Kind of makes me wonder what God has in store next...

Hi Andrew and John - I really struggle to understand why it is seen by some as 'strange' that we might wish to take our Christianity to work.

It is not something we can or should ‘leave at the entrance door’ until 5 pm even though in my experience many bosses and colleagues give that impression.

Just over 2 years ago I left the corporate world of management after 35 years in the NHS to become freelance and independent. I am now able to immerse myself fully into a Christian/work/life mix with my wonderful wife Annie that doesn’t blur any edges and it feels great. It ismone christian life and I thank God daily for for that.

Yours is a wonderful discussion and I am happy to join it. I am new to ‘About Life’ but I have my own Simplicity Blog (my obsession is Simplicity)

My Simplicity Blog is at the link - feel free to comment:

My About Life Blog is at this link although I am afraid it is not very up to date.

We all know there is much to do in bringing Christianity to the workplace and it is great to know there are so many like minded people.

Margaret Mead the famous anthropologist said

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for your post. The Christian life should be simple, if we take the example of Jesus pointing to children as the example of Kingdom citizens. Integrity in our walk, should mean that we are aiming for simplicity in our work / spiritual life balance.

Your aim towards simplicity reminds me of an Edward De Bono book of that title; just wondering if you might have read it?

Warm Regards,
Net Prophet (ie. Daniel not John : ))

Hi Daniel

I have read some of Edward De Bono’s work – particularly Six Thinking Hats.

Simplicity is something I have long advocated and I always like to come across allies in the battle against unnecessary complexity. You are so right about Jesus who set us the greatest example of all about simplicity. Thanks for you comment

In Christ :-)
Trevor, how about a chat sometime at the HTB Cafe? How does that sound? You approach has lots of applications.

Blessings,
Daniel
Hi Daniel

We live in Solihull, West Midlands and have only been down twice to HTB. We were blessed to see Nicky preach recently on William Wilberforce and we came down last year to hear Archie.

Happy to share whatever we can through e mail etc., - who knows we may be able to do something together. I never turn away opportunities to meet like minded folks.

Yours in Christ
Hi Trevor and Daniel,
Do include me should you two meet up! Want to know how to promote simplicity too. I took so much energy to be simple.

Ciao,
Andrew C
Great Andrew - it would be wonderful to link up electronically in the first place - lets share e mail addresses and start a virtual discussion.

Do either of you have Skype?
