It’s over. My work here in Asia is done (for the time being at least!). I’m currently killing time in Singapore airport as I wait for my flight to Thailand. It’s 6am and the airport is just beginning to wake up. Jeni, Frances and I spent the night on the sofas of Starbucks, grabbing a few hours of sleep before the air-con woke us all up and prevented our slumber from continuing. I’m pretty tired, but can’t say I’m particularly bothered because for the next few days I will be fully relaxing, getting all the sleep I need to rejuvenate.
Jeni and I still haven’t decided where we’re going to base ourselves in Thailand. Having no onward transport booked from the capital, we’ve changed our minds multiple times over this past week. Our flight to Bangkok leaves in about an hour and half, and once there, we’re going to grab the first flight to a Thai beach destination and hope for the best! Nevertheless, some friends of ours have been super kind and advised us of a few locations based on their previous travels to Thailand, so we’re not going in fully blind.
The last two weeks have felt like the longest ever. It’s hard to believe I was in Manila only a week ago – it feels more like a month! I’ve really enjoyed this trip though. It’s been a combination of hard work and fun – the latter, of course, a little limited, but it’s been great getting to know the team a bit better on a social level.
After all the hard work was finally complete on Saturday, Jeni and I were freed up on Sunday to explore the city! We didn’t do all that much – taking it easy was high on our agenda – but we managed to see a little more than just the inside of our hotel room, a number of different venues and the roads. A late morning swim in the hotel pool, lunch with the gang at the nearest food hall, and then off to Raffles for the world renowned Singapore Sling! And what a yummy cocktail it was…
I’m missing everyone at home very much. In a way I wish I was flying home today rather than onto Thailand, but an opportunity like this could not be missed! I know I’ll have an amazing time, I just wish I could bring all my friends to experience it with me!!
Okay, my brain is shutting down now, so guess this is a good a place as any to draw this blog entry to a close… I’ll be offline for the next week, but hopefully I’ll discipline myself to continue blogging a little more frequently once I’m back!
Bye for now…
