your favourite album

The album I could listen to everyday for the rest of my life is (and I do listen to it most days) is Bob Dylan's 'Slow Train Coming'. It was released in 1979 when I was just three and even then I loved it. I always used to bug Mum and Dad to put the fun 'Man Gave Names to all the Animals' on.

This was the first album Bob created in his 'Christian phase'. I don't know where Bob is at in his journey these days but he captured something very special here. It  is just an outstanding piece of work. Its so direct with the Gospel message but somehow its not cringeworthy, its just beautiful. 'I believe in You' is my favourite song on here - a great expression of believing even when you're faced with all the hard stuff.  Gritty, real, honest, beautiful, tender.

Although the critics scratched their heads you only have to read a few of the reviews here to see that its an album which stands on its merits to believers and non believers alike.  Mark Knopfler's playing across the album is also  instantly recognisable and inspired. His playing is so tasty you feel like having a little chew on the CD cover.

So there you go - this is my favourite album of all time. What's yours?

I've had a little think and it is probably Afterlifesatisfaction by the Springbok Nude Girls.

A very close second is Business as Usual by Men At Work

A very close third is Dolittle by the Pixies

I have to stop thinking about his now or things will get out of control.
You see, this is the problem - where do I put New Moon Shine by James Taylor?  Probably at 1.5 or 2.5.  Oh dear.
I once listened to Frank Black's Teenager of the Year pretty much every day for 6 months.  I just never took the tape out of the car stereo.

Please stop doing this to me.
Crowded House - Woodface - Aaaargh!

I will log out now and not log back in until I have got my feelings under control.  My apologies for hogging this post.
Bill - you need help.
The Joshua Tree. Obviously.
br_c got a little excited there. lets limit it to one man!  or maybe you can  do a  post with your top ten - although that might give you more headaches!

joshua tree is a good choice too bill. its a belter.
hmmm im with billic - Joshua Tree is great.

But i'd have to go with more of their recent hits too and include the live homecoming gig in Ireland.

I love the nudies Afterlifesatisfaction album especially the songs Little, Genie & Fire Bow.

There is just so much pent-up energy in that album you just want to explode after listening to it.
Yep, that describes it perfectly.

Hearing Genie for the first time was one of the moments when I realised saffas could actually make world class music after all.

They were a band just coming into their own, doing some of their most creative stuff, not yet given big studio budgets, so still quite raw and erratic.  Inspiring stuff.

I found this mp3 "sampler" of their music on the net - something to give our non-SA peeps an idea of what the nudies sounded like.
