I have met few people as terrible as me for sleeping in. Most would leave it as a weekend thing - when I get a job I'll have to do that too - but I have, for many years now, taken the lie-in to wholly new ridiculous levels.
For example: Today I woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed at about 8:15. Within seconds I was drowsy and decided to go back to sleep just a little bit longer, intending to get up at oh... 8:30 at the latest.
I got up at 11.
The snooze button was a bad invention. I can hit snooze every five minutes for two hours and still not get up. This is, unfortunately, not an uncommon event for me.
At the church in Bundaburg I went to last week, they spoke about 1 Thessalonians 4:11&12,
11Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, 12so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
The preacher spoke about hard work and laziness, and have I felt uncomfortable ever since. Now I take this as a good thing, as it means God is poking me and letting me know that He knows about my sleeping in and not doing much during the day and that's Not what I'm meant to be doing. The speaker also said as a warning from Paul's letter,
"Stay away from lazy people! Do not treat them as your enemy, they are your brothers, love them and treat them as your brother and make them feel ashamed of their laziness."
He's completely right. Worst thing you can do for a lazy person is to tell them it's okay to be lazy and sit back and just take it easy. No! That wont help! Lazy people are often lazy because they lack the vision or initiative to find something useful to do, but if you give that person a task and encourage their gusto you can get a lot done. If the person lacks even the will to do that, well you have a bigger problem on your hands than just laziness.
Hats off to those who have overcome snooze buttons, got their rear in gear and got on with life. We lazy people (not assuming you're lazy, just trying to encourage team spirit) get hope from your success.
And now I'm going to go give myself something really encouraging and useful to do, because I've spent enough time doing little.
Motivation from Proverbs,
6:10-11 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest- and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.
10:5 He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
14:23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
19:15 Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless man goes hungry.
