Basil The CatSeptember 7, 2006 - 11:35pm | email this page
Last night I got ready for bed, watched about five minutes of crap t.v., propped up the pillows, zapped the telly off, and fell asleep with a wee prayer on my breath. Something along the lines of 'Thanks for a giving me a life worth living, beyond my wildest dreams, keeping my clean, and planting me in such a great place, with so many cool people in my life...', before drifting off...
I was awoken by the sound of someone/thing coming in the window, and the sound of and animal squealing; I thought it was the highly vociferous foxes that we sometimes get on the Charis grounds here in the East End. After a few moments sitting bolt upright in the pitch black, like some character in an Edgar Allen Poe novel, I heard the cheeky 'meeeiowww', punctuated by the padded paw intonations on the carpet. By this time, I'm smiling as I get out of bed, heading for the light socket, knowing it to be our neighbours cat, Basil. read more | 2 comments | 678 reads

Hi everyone, this is my first submission to 'My Daily Surrender', which is what I have decided to call my blog. I have called it that for a variety of reasons. First of all, I am a person who is recovering from addiction; addiction to ingestible substances or addiction to 'mood altering experiences', doesn't really make a difference because they have the same outcome: They seperate me from God, erect a partition, and ultimately seek to isolate me with a view to destroying me. Sounds extreme, but thats what I have too live with, and the most effective way that I have to manage being so disposed, is to surrender my will and abandon myself into the care of a Loving God, which I relate to as Our Lord, Jesus Christ, praise His Holy Name. I have to do that on a daily basis, and sometimes when I find my old nature asserting itself, I have to restart my day at the oddest times, and resurrender my will to the Will of God...

I Loved Nicky Gumbal's visualisation about the lasso last night at HTB. He demonstrated how we can visualise using a lasso to take intrusive thoughts/tempation captive, and then sling 'em straight out. How excellent is that... The other piece of conventional wisdom applicable to this area is the saying that 'you can't stop a bird from crapping on your head, but you can stop it from building a nest there'... But yeah, the lasso thing gets ten out of ten and goes straight in the tool box...
One Body of ChristSeptember 7, 2006 - 11:56pm | email this page
How much it must hurt Jesus to have to watch his Body fragmented by schism and division. If I had one wish it would be to see his Body integrated and healed and once more, holistic. Wouldn't it be fantastic to see this occur in our lifetime. Do you think it is possible that we might? It's time for a straw poll. I want to know how many people think it is possible for this to happen in our lifetime. Do you think, if we started right her right now, and each of us asked three people to pray for this purpose, that we could affect this outcome. Go on, I dare ya...double dare...
