When the boss is away...

My boss has been away a fair bit recently, especially this last week. Sometimes we have no idea where he is and we'll get a phone call from him from home or somewhere in his car, but the last week saw the passing away of his grandma and he helped out with the funeral arrangements etc. which took him away for a couple of days.

So what have we been doing while he's away? Sometimes I'm the only one there actually, and I'm still at a loss as to how to deal with some circumstances that arise. I manage though, and I'm able to put some things off until the boss comes back.

Well, Thursday was my official last day at Flight Centre. I thought I was going back this coming Tuesday for an extra day to help out but found out yesterday that they've got someone to replace me now, so that's good.

Why am I leaving Flight Centre? Well, I was offered a position with another advertising agency, a lot closer to home, and as a manager for a new branch where I would be my own boss, building up my own client base, and doing a lot more creative stuff. I also asked Flight Centre what they thought of me leaving before I did leave, and they advised me that I should go for this new position because it sounded much better than what they had to offer :)

My day will consist of a morning church service, then going around to my sister and bro-in-law's place with my parents and other siblings for a Christmas lunch and presents and probably watching a movie.

Well! The IDEAL job was given to another person this morning, someone known to the rest of the people working there. However, I also received a phone call from Flight Centre offering me a job in the city with them, part time to start off with, and I've also arranged to work the other two days per week at Runtime Design, closer to home and mentioned in the previous blog entry.

The hunt is definitely on! A couple of weeks ago I decided to make a really big effort to find a job in Brisbane. I sent out a dozen +plus emails in response to job vacancies and also some cold calling (via emails) to some of the bigger design houses in Brizzy.

Well, I was invited to an employment agency for a meeting and I'm now on the short list for a job in the middle of Brizzy, right where I wanted to work :D

My goodness! In my last entry, I wrote about being a lazy man and the need to pick up my act. I can gladly say that things have been totally different since that last entry!

I got stuck into my work and finished off a few things, or brought them to the point where I then had to rely on other people to supply the information. I also found out that two of my potential clients have pulled out so 7 weeks worth of work disappeared. It was then that I knew full well that I would be relying on God to bring work my way.

One thing I have been struggling with very much of late is laziness. Or perhaps more accurately, a fine blend of procrastination, fear, and really bad time management.

I have been running my own business since mid-2005 so you'd think I would have worked out my self-discipline issues by now, but because much of that time was spent studying and there was a 5 week stint where I worked under someone else, I never noticed how little input I actually had into my own business. I think it has been over a year since I've actually completed a website, but I've had several on the go for quite some time now.

I'm feeling pretty excited at the moment. About a week ago, I discovered that I was going to New Zealand to meet up with Jen. If you haven't cottoned on, there's a bit of something going on between us :p and I'm going to meet up with her for the first time since this thing between us developed.

I leave this coming Friday (a week from now) and will spend a few days with her and her folks (whom I haven't met yet).

Well, it's old news to me, but new news to you (most likely).

WEC camp went well, with one of our boys coming to Christ. So cool :D He is part of a church and friends with the pastor, but hadn't made any commitment until WEC camp and my co-leader and I were part of it all. Thank you Lord.

The job at SU hasn't eventuated. I was second choice, but that means I still didn't get the job. Since then, I've still been plodding along, working for myself, and I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go next. I'm keeping an eye out for more jobs, but I'm also getting requests from current and potentially new clients about doing work for them, so perhaps I'm supposed to keep working for myself for a while....

1) Tomorrow I venture off for a week to a camp site by a lake for the WEC Highschooler's camp. I will be a leader for the fourth time now on this annual camp, and ask for any readers to please pray for this camp.

There have always been people coming to Christ on this camp, but we know that it is because people pray. Could you please send up a quick prayer now before you leave this entry.

I was going through some of my music trying to find songs to put on my 'mixTape' to send through to my pgf. I came across this song 'Hero' by Superchic[k] and the words still impact me deeply, probably just as much as they did when I first heard them.
If anyone has not heard of Superchic[k], please take the time to get to know some of their music, because most of their songs have really good messages, especially applicable to teens and young adults.
