Prodigal Son Demo

This is part of a new song I hope to lay down soon. I did this test version to try out my new E-Bow (Electronic Bow). The sound it makes is the sustained, distant moan. Let me know what you think!

Valentines Tune

Happy Valentines! In honor of the day, I present my audio gift to one and all.

Looking Forward on 2007

Auld Lang Syne. It can be literally translated to ‘Days Gone Bye’. As 2007 dawns, I look back fondly on a great many memories. But I think the retrospective view misses the point a bit. If 2006 taught me anything, it’s that – while reflecting is wonderful – dwelling on the places of the past is pointless.

In this New Year, I invite you all to join me in a focus on the future. Write a list of goals, both short- and long-term. Look at your career, where you wish it could go, and the best way to get it there. Reexamine how you spend your money, and look for the places it could do the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Rather than slowly building momentum, take a jump into 2007. I think we’ll all be surprised how much inertia we can together carry.

Gift. To: Me. From: Myself.

Gift. To: Me. From: Myself. In a wonderful display of impulsive holiday cheer, I have surprised myself with a new guitar! I haggled my way to a great price on a black Ibanez AEG10E acoustic-electric. Merry Christmas Me. Thanks, Myself.

Magellan, Eat Your Heart Out

I knew travel would be an important part of my job when I accepted the position in June of this year. But I recently figured out that, in just 4 months, I have already flown far enough to circumnavigate the planet. Here are some statistics, as the bird flies from Columbus, Ohio with no layovers:

    Covered: June 2006 – Present
              866 miles: Atlanta

Perspective

On the desk at my office, I have a frame that holds two pictures. On the left is that cliché shot of Parliament everyone takes from the London Eye, Big Ben popping out over the horizon. On the right is another photo from the same height: a slightly tilted shot of Telecom Tower, milky through miles of haze. PerspectiveSo why bother with the latter? Because – if  you look closely and squint – you can make out my old flat overlooking the historic streets of Bloomsbury, representative of a time and place that are now interwoven into how I define my life. I’ve noticed how my coworkers give this picture an odd look, but nobody actually bothers to ask. I wonder how often we pass up some bit of understanding because we don’t take the time to inquire about a perspective other than our own.
