I am getting married in march next year and I was thinking of what modern songs would be suitable for a lively c of e wedding in which most of the guests won't be christians. Any ideas?

Congrats!
We had "In Christ Alone" and "Before the Throne of God". Probably not the livliest choices, nor the most modern, but they sum it all up for me :o)
Does it matter that most of the guests won't be Christians? If so, in what way?
I would say that about half of our guests were non-Christians, and I wanted to choose songs that were fun to sing but also got some kind of message across. It was a good witness opportunity, but essentially the wedding was about us and God, y'know?

Look no further, I'm your expert!! We had exactly the same problem.
I'm assuming you'll have a band (and therefore a good drummer), and that some of your friends will be Christians so can sing really loudly. After much thought we decided to have "old-school hymns with an HTB twist" so REALLY rocked out to How Great Thou Art, Before the Throne of God Above, All Creatures of our God and King, and Be Thou my Vision. We also had an acapella choir sing Amazing Grace jazz-style while we were signing the register.
However, Caz is right. It's about what
you
want, and no one else. All D & I wanted to do was get married and worship - the rest was incidental. You'll be a bag of nerves, and the less you can worry about the better..so I would suggest you pick what
you
want, and no one else. The band can always play the songs (without vocals) as the guests arrive in any case - so at least they pick up the melodies!

Congrats! I have no ideas or suggestions for songs at all, but I think that seeing as this is Your wedding, you can subject your guests to all your faves and they can't complain (and most likely won't anyway) :)
Conga Rat Ulations again! :D

Simple, easily graspable songs are always good for non-Christians - upbeat hymns as already suggested are good (How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace) - also easy songs like How Great is our God tend to go down well as they're easy to pick up.
Songs like 'In Christ Alone' can be good as they're very 'truth-filled' - e.g. they are mostly narrative which explain brilliant messages about God to those who may not have grasped them before!
Congratulations anywho!

we had a similar problem and chose this:

because people would know the tune, and also played "you raise me up", since it can be considered as both secular and Christian (this was way before the song was covered to death... )

Thanks for the comments. I was also thinking about In Christ Alone, How Great is our god, before the throne and how great thou art. How great thou art was in my grandfathers funeral so make my mum cry so it may be difficult. We will have a full band including drummer but I have realised that I dont want everyone singing, I just want everyone worshipping him and using familiar songs for them wont necessarily make that happen.
