What I do

Actually, what the company does. Quite a few people have never heard of Arup - they tend to be non-engineers which isn't overly surprising.

Anyway, the chances are that you will have seen what it does. Here's a quick blast.

Sydney Opera House
The Gherkin
The Millennium Bridge (laugh if you want to but we did also fix it)

That's just a taste as apparently at any given time we're working on more than 10,000 project. Personally I'm on about 5 none of which are famous.

If, somehow, you've never seen any of these then there's a good chance that you will in August as we designed the Olympics. Or the Olympic venues to be accurate. We've even created a website to show off our work which is very un-engineer like and worringly similar to what architects might do. You can see it here. My favourite is the 'Water Cube'.

However, not only are we making a big fuss about it, but so is the Chinese government (is that a good thing?) The new 10 yuan note will have a picture of the National Stadium aka 'Birds Nest', another of ours.

And what in the future? The most important of all our projects may turn out to be Dongtan, the 'sustainable city' outside of Shanghai. Google it. Even I have worked on this one.

That'll do for my own form of propaganda.

See y'all
ooh - I saw a programme on the water cube. Looks fascinating!
I think you are very clever.
Ooh love the water cube! Very groovy :o) The national stadium is very cool too. And greenpix is pretty :o)

That's a very impressive website. Did you have anything to do with the google earth-esque opening?

You should check out the Aquarium of the Pacific, where I work; the press compared the design to the Sidney Opera House when it opened. It's supposed to look like three cresting waves.
I met someone who works at Arup yesterday.  Her job is to make sure companies work within their licence.  It sounds like a great place to work, but unfortunately I'm not an engineer.
