Desks Revealing All...

Desks Revealing All...Don't you just hate those 'body-language-analysts' who take every little gesture you make and translate it into some epic that reveals your inner soul? You instantly find yourself uncrossing your arms, legs and every other crossed part of your body, and screaming 'I'm NOT being defensive!!!'.

From Scarborough to Prime Time America!

Free Ice-Cream: the secret to office happiness

Apparently, free ice-cream is the secret to office happiness (according to 30% of 18 -24 US workers).

Miracles at work!

Miracles at work!A friend of mine recently shared how God had literally performed a miracle in her workplace. She works for an agency providing Care Centres. One of these was due for closure for various reasons, causing huge distress all round. After loads of prayers, and just before the crisis meeting, God turned up!

Bullying in the workplace

Bullying in the workplace"I thought I was the only person this was happening to"
"I've been in the workplace for 20 years and never had an experience like it"
"I thought it was my fault - I was going mad"

Shortest Job in the World

You have to feel for Leroy Rosenior - he was appointed as manager of the relegated League Two club Torquay United last Thursday, only for chairman Mike Bateson to agree to immediately sell 51% of the club to a consortium.

The first act of the new owner, was reportedly to relieve him of his duties, 10 minutes after his appointment...

All's fair in love & work!

All's fair in love & work!I haven't been following The Apprentice, but I did catch some of the headlines from last week. Apparently, 2 of the candidates (Paul & Katie) had been getting close, and the romance was beginning to affect their work performance. Paul paid the price last week, and was on the receiving end of Sir Alan's immortal words 'You're fired'. One commentator put it: "For Katie and Paul, love got in the way of a job well done. It clouded their judgement and I'm sure they will regret their relationship."

Your work - a Monster?

Your work - a Monster?I had one of those surreal moments the other day: I'd just been watching a documentary on the UN's peace-keeping mission in Haiti, and how they were attempting to tackle violence in the infamous ghetto, the 'Cite du Soleil'. Now in itself, this was surreal enough, as this world was as far removed from my comfortable existence in Andover as Pluto is from the Sun, but that's a subject for another blog.

That Friday Feeling...

That Friday Feeling...I was extremely privileged to have breakfast with a good friend of mine and his family (thanks Seán!). Their children were excited as it's the last day of term, and Luke, the eldest, was allowed to go to school dressed in 'non-uniform'!!

This reminded me of the good old days when I worked at Sony, and we used to have 'dress down' Fridays. We even sometimes pushed the Friday Feeling to extremes by going down to the pub at lunchtime, although more often than not, this good intention was scuppered by our busy-ness.

Church life & Work life: hand-in-hand for the Kingdom?

Church life & Work life: hand-in-hand for the Kingdom? We all know that Church isn't just about Sunday services, but also the rest of the week. In my experience however, the 2 can often seem at loggerheads. I don't know about you, but it can sometimes feel that we're torn between two demanding taskmasters: church meetings on one hand are the heartbeat of church life, but work seems to take so much out of you.
