A History of God

I am currently reading A History of God, by Karen Armstrong. This book covers the origins and elements of Judiasm, Christianity and Islam.  I am only on page 30 and already I feel this book will begin to seriously question my core beliefs. It is well written and offers a wonderful historical context that helps the reader discover how these religions were developed and cultivated. I assume later in the book, I will get a better understanding of the differences between the three religions.

Would love to hear from anyone else who has read this book. What were your opinions/thoughts/perceptions/questions, etc....

Carynos,

I really hope this doesn't sound patronising: Have you ever read anything like this before?

Armstrong is funny because you have to understand that her conclusions are not so much a product of her actual research and study, but that they are much more an after effect of some basic beliefs and ideas that she already has. And some of those basic beliefs are pretty unreasonable and blatantly untrue.

One way to read the book is to just read the book, the other way is to really read it quite critically, perhaps picking up articles like this one (http://www.tektonics.org/af/ armstrongk01.html) alongside it.

As you have questions, try emailing evangelical tutors / profs at LST, Trinity (USA), Talbot (USA), etc.

Blessings,

Thanks T for the information. I will definitely read this book in addition to other materials. Thanks for letting me know!
