Arrr Christmas. The wonder of it all. I do like to watch children's eyes glaring at Santa, or concentrating fully on making sure their candle doesn't set fire to the girls' hair in front at Christingle.
On Chirstmas eve, Clare (my cousin) and her children made preparations for Santa's arrival to their house, baring gifts a plenty.
Kate and Robert were helped by mummy to leave a bucket of water outside for the Reindeer. (Thoughtful I thought as I had never done this in my own youth)
When they came inside, next to the fire were carrots and a mince pie with a nice glass of sherry for Santa.
All was well. Until Kate felt the need to speak,
"Mummy. Robert and I feel we should put a glass of water next to the fire, not a glass of sherry"
"Why's that Kate?" Mother replied,
"Well he's working this evening and most importantly, he's driving. So he shouldn't be having sherry. We don't want him to be caught for drink driving"
The father piped up, 'Santa is can have the one Sherry and that is final" Almost shaking from his daughters opinion, bemused where such responsibility had come from...the funny thing for them about this....
Kate is five years old.
