What's in a name..

Have a look at "Jonathan" Marches well written and thought provoking entry about names and nick names...

I personally think that self acceptance of nick names are very much dependant on who created/coined them.  If we love the person who coined the phrase then we are happy with the name.

What's your nickname?
yes, but I could not stand Jono at first even though it originated from a lovely Aussie friend, because I was a Jonathan and always had been but now, five years on, am very comfortable with it even though I would still love it if everyone did call me Jonathan. But it's too late now unfortunately as nearly all my church friends call me Jono (sniff...) and so that is that!
That's very true C. I had a huge crush on a guy at church when I was about 12 and after I hit a 6 playing cricket he started calling me Viv Richards...it's still one of my favourite nick names!
Yeah, i think maybe you're right... I think part of why i have learned to love 'Jenny' again, because i boy i fell in love with started to call it me. but that's over now, and so a bit sad. But i still think it's important to face your past demons, whatever they may be, and even the names related to them, and search who you really are in it all! I basically wound everyone up because i was a silly little know-it-all!! Which now i'm quite proud of in a weird way!
Di: I'll have to remember that one next time I see you ;-)
I played my first cricket yesterday.  It was a v competitive game with Charlie Coates (Archie's little son), his friend and Al French!!!
Ooh I'm very jealous, I haven't played since I was in Provence with Mr french and Will Johnson. I became quite a fine silly mid-on in Uni but haven't kept up the skills, we should get a game going at home focus!
mmmm and I used to play in the Cheshire League! We came second the year I played for them (although I should not boast most of the time I was last batswoman and ran on during the intervals with orange juice!) I was also very worried each net session about my nails - much to the amusement of our coach who pretended to call an ambulance the one time I broke one! Nickname Sazza Marsh is from my best uni friends, Sairs - family, Shazza Mac - one cousin and one cousin ONLY!
