Top Ten Albums

On the encouragement of kris, here goes.

1. Springbok Nude Girls - Afterlifesatisfaction
It blew my mind.  A band that made people want to start bands.  This was the promise of an SA music revolution.   But it seems no-one could follow them.  Saron Gas/Seether are probably the only band who have come close.

2. Men At Work - Business As Usual
Because secretly there is a part of me that wishes I was an Aussie.

3. James Taylor - New Moon Shine

Contains the immortal words "Big McFalafel and a side of fries".  Impressive range of styles on this record.  I reckon it went a bit downhill for James Taylor after this period.

4. Crowded House - Woodface
A golden time for Australia when both the Finn brothers and the Waugh brothers were coming into their own.  (cue Kiwi rant)

5. Pixies - Doolittle
Debaser must be one of the most kicking songs in history.  This is the stuff that launched Nirvana.

Apparently Thom Yorke, after being told of the Pixies plans to play before Radiohead at the Coachella Festival, said: "No. That's just not right. The Pixies opening for us is like the Beatles opening for us. I won't allow it. There's no way we can follow the Pixies."

6. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

John Frusciante back from the dead - sweet.

7. Presidents of the USA - Presidents of the USA

A band with a total of only five strings.  Achingly tight. Laugh out loud lyrics. Unsung genius.

8. Frank Black - Teenager of the year
This record made me cash in my pension savings and buy an electric guitar, so if I am destitute in retirement, it's his fault.  Headache is a fantastic song.

9. Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - Mainstream
This record made me want to be a rock star.  I never did become a rock star.  Then again, neither did Lloyd.

10. Tobymac - Welcome to Diverse City

White men can jump.

So, what's yours?
I was tempted to unleash some patriotic tirade but laughed when you beat me as I read this at the end...(cue Kiwi rant) ha!

Saw Lloyd Cole live a couple of years back...no Commotions anymore but still a nice personal gig with just him and some classic tunes.
Wow, it's not every day I meet a fellow Lloyd Cole fan.  Respect to you, sir!
We are a rare breed are we not. I'm heading over to check out the Toby Mac album...that was a surprise.
done mine too - see my blog

it was a LOT harder than I thought it would be.
