3 Minutes in

About 3 minutes in I thought that my heart was going to explode. I knew that it would get worse before it got better.
It's at moments like these that you face a choice: Comfort or glory.
I have to be honest and say that comfort seemed like a hugely attractive option at that moment. No more pain, no more straining, no more agony.
Another voice urged- you've come this far- keep going. Keep going. You can do it. Focus.
Focus on the prize.
I was at war with myself. To give up now would be to waste all the training. All the hard work.
What's the point of starting if you're not going to finish?
Fix your eyes on the prize. Fix your eyes on the prize. Fix your eyes on the prize.
Over and over in my head.

Believe.
Believe.

Agony.

Focus.
Agony.

FOCUS.

Relief.

My body's screaming replaced by euphoria.
I stagger across the room.
Float.
It was worth it.
Never again. Well, not until next time, anyway.

To attain your goal you have to fix your eyes on the prize.
Sometimes it will be agony. Your flesh will tell you it can't go any further, any faster, any harder. Don't listen to it. It is longing for comfort. For relief.
The prize that awaits is worth the struggle. Worth the pain. Worth the agony.
So hold on.
For God's sake don't give in.
He is beside you, running with you.
He will give you what you need to finish the race.
And He is waiting for you at the finishing line.
