what are we calling worship now...?

i've seen this video posted on a lot on people's blogs - and a lot of people saying how much it helped them - and i'm really confused...

ok, correct me if i'm wrong... is he telling us that true worship of God, authentic worship before God, the pursuit of a clean heart and a worthy offering to God is now called 'art'?

some songs are just worth shouting about - they reach places that lift something within you.

album update

so these past few weeks have been crazy with working on the few remaining pieces of the songs for sinners puzzle. recordings are very organic things - they definitely take time to grow, they bear the fruit of your efforts and they can over time cost you a lot of energy, head-scratching and resources. all of the above, i think have been experienced through this project my many - although the outlook is still very bright and exciting.

how to run effective rehearsals

last week i taught a class on how to run effective rehearsals. by effective i mean 2 things - 'without causing a car crash' and 'worshipful'. if you're interested, these were my notes....

week in and week out, we are faced with combining different levels of musicianship and skill within our worship teams to achieve effective and worshipful rehearsals in the time given.

below is a list of 5 values for leading an effective rehearsal on the day of the weekend service.  In the week leading up to this, our musicians and singers are encouraged to review the worship set and listen to mp3’s of special music through a secure website that we have set up at minimal cost. This resource has proven worthwhile, especially with our less experienced volunteers.

at least watch it to through the guitar solo...

Easter Service

Easter Servicethis weekend out entire church body met in the 'Sears Centre', a 12,000 seat room located on the highway between 2 of our campuses. it was an incredible morning of coming together and worshiping the resurrection of our Savior. i think we nearly filled the entire room which was an encouragement to all who came.

..and breathe...

i'm writing this entry just before i go home at the end of the week, but still the middle of what seems to be one of the busiest times that our churches worship ministry has ever experienced as we lead up to some pretty big Easter celebrations for our church next weekend.

one of my verses stuck on my mind this week has been 'whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might' Ecc 9:10. this verse keeps my head above the water - it helps me to know that the smallest to the largest of tasks are all worship to God if i can say 'i did the best i can do' - and there's a lot to do for one big weekend that will all go by in a flash - but i know it is so worth it all.

24 hours in AZ.

24 hours in AZ.this past weekend i flew down to Phoenix, Arizona to spend some time with my good friend Seth, who is the worship leader for a new extension campus of our church. We had a good day putting the world to rights and in the evening, leading together at his church. my first time in AZ - loved the heat, loved catching up with people - and would love to do it all over again. we'll see. thanks Seth and co.

What Does a Worship Leader Do? Pt. 1
this is the first article of many by Bob Kauflin , a well trusted source of leadership to worship ministries across the States. He is the Director of Worship Development for Sovereign Grace Ministries and is releasing a book for worship leaders later this year...

What Does a Worship Leader Do? Pt. 1

Before I start this series, I wanted to give you some background. Eight years ago, after I had served as a pastor for twelve years, C.J. Mahaney invited me to assume the new role of “Director of Worship Development” for Sovereign Grace Ministries. One of my assignments was to study and train others in the practicals of biblical worship, particularly as it relates to music.
