I heard recently that the Pastor of a Vineyard Church in the East Midlands recently walked into his church to find the Eritrean Christians he had allowed to use the church during the week singing. He was captivated at their simple songs accompanied only by a very gentle use of the hand-clapping.

Blood Vessels Dance to Music

A study at the University of Maryland revealed that blood vessels dilate to joyful music. The study, directed by the director of preventive cardiology, Michael Miller MD examined 10 participants who were tested with ultrasound while listening to music.
The volunteers' blood vessels by dilated 26% while they listened to music that made them feel joy. The dilation led to an immediate increase in blood flow similar to what would be expected during aerobic exercises.

Why must the voice of the "lead worshipper" fill the sanctuary 80% of the time and the congregation 5%? (music and silence 15%?) Is not their job ideally to empower the saints and do themselves out of a job ... umm ... and put that microphone down .... especially when shouting? Now just in case someone starts to get upset I am not having a go at our brothers and sisters musicians out in Lakeland but just asking a question about dynamics.

Another piece from the Vine album by Cloud, sung in HTB only 20 years ago. Perhaps worth another listen to remind us of our rich musical heritage and the simple joyous naturalistic sounds of the ecstatic saints who display the spirit of love, power and self control (especially of their delivery and volume levels? All self same spiritual power to the current team of musicians)

The challenge is to listen and learn, then to sing along to this exquisite song/prayer which is part of the history and cultural inheritance of all children of God reborn, nurtured or matured within the sacred portals of HTB.
